Bokaro Zoo Summer Care Plan: Protecting Animals from Heatwave
Bokaro: As temperatures continue to soar, Jawaharlal Nehru Biological (JNB) Park, also known as Bokaro zoo, has introduced an extensive summer care plan to keep its animals safe and comfortable. The initiative includes special dietary supplements such as vitamins, electrolytes and minerals to help maintain the animals’ energy levels and immunity during the intense heat.To provide relief from the harsh weather, coolers and fans have been installed inside enclosures. Dedicated water pools have been arranged for hippopotamus and bears, allowing them to stay cool throughout the day. For other species, shaded structures have been set up to protect them from direct sunlight. JNB Park, having 26 enclosures, is owned and maintained by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL).Chief of communication, BSL, Manikant Dhan said, “All animals are under close observation, with staff conducting regular health checks to ensure their well-being. The measures are aimed at creating a stress-free and healthy environment for every species housed at the park.”The Bokaro zoo remains home to several animals including bears, hippos, deer and colourful birds. “Despite the summer conditions, the animals continue to remain active and healthy under the enhanced care system, making the zoo a recreational spot,” said Dhan.
